5. Props, props, and more props.

Welcome back to COLD START: The Road to Production. Our shoot is in one day. We are locked and loaded, ready to knock it out of the park. This blog post highlights the experience of building and securing props for Cold Start.
The Production Designer and I have been hard at work securing the props and set dressing needed to make a logical and period accurate set. Although we are filming in Southern California, a keen eye and attention to detail narrowed us to autobody shops located in Marin County, Northern California that were kind enough to lend us 80% of the film’s props and set decoration. It’s almost like they wanted us to take the dusty, cobweb-covered, unused equipment they had lying around.
We set dressed our location a day in advance to allow for us to jump straight into action on our shooting days. Once we are shooting, however, we are all well aware that some props may need their location adjusted to allow more space when lighting and for the composition of each frame to feel natural and balanced. I am looking forward to sharing progress and updates once we have finished shooting!
